The Arkleston Singers
Current season

We sing both a cappella (unaccompanied) and accompanied by piano. Our repertoire is wide and varied, in 4 or 8 parts, and may be modern liturgical, secular, historical (madrigals or operetta), from musical theatre or recent popular music.

The focus for our annual concert is chamber music by living composers (usually with chamber instrument ensemble accompaniment), mixed with popular songs from past and present. However, The Arkleston Singers do also rehearse and perform a diverse selection of music from Bach, Mozart and Vaughan Williams to Adèle, Leonard Cohen and Freddie Mercury, and continue to present lively programmes throughout the year.

In our current 2020-21 season with Musical Director Marcus Kitchen, we are rehearsing, among others, Howard Goodall’s Eternal Light, Eric Whitacre’s Seal Lullaby, a motet by Paul Mealor, Victorian ballads, Scots songs, a madrigal, a brand new commission and familiar hits from Lennon & McCartney, John Denver and ABBA. We are never bored!

In addition to more standard works, we have also performed a number of premières and commissioned several brand new works over the years.

“I like the fact that this small group performs a range of intimate music not normally sung by the larger orchestra-led choirs.” - EL (tenor)
