The Arkleston Singers
Our History
Home
The Arkleston Singers first came together in 1979 as a fundraising group for a trip to the USA by the then Scottish National Orchestra Chorus. When the fundraising was over, the singers decided to stay together and continue to perform for their own enjoyment and the pleasure of others. The name 'The Arkleston Singers' comes from the venue for the first meeting of the group - a member’s house in Arkleston Road, Paisley!

Although all of the original members were with the RSNO Chorus, today’s Arkleston Singers come from a variety of musical backgrounds.

Founding Musical Director Tom Ferguson led the group for 20 years and was followed, in 1999, by Gordon Mabbot. Ken Paterson took over in 2005 and our current MD, Marcus Kitchen joined us in 2016.

Season 2019-20 sees The Arkleston Singers celebrate 40 years of entertaining the community. Apart from sharing our favourite repertoire from the past 4 decades in our concerts this year, current and former members came together for an anniversary reunion dinner in Elderslie Golf Club on 25 October 2019.
